The candidate for the Alcaldía de Las Terrenas, Agustín Tavárez, stressed the importance of promoting organized tourism development, with municipal planning, investment and greater participation of the communities, during their participation in the XI Annual Meeting for the Tourism Development of Samana, held under the motto “Samaná, Sailing to a New Age.”.
In a province where tourism represents a source of economic dynamism, one of the main challenges is to ensure that the growth of activity is translated into jobs, strengthening local business and improving living conditions for residents.
In this regard, land planning, clear implementation of standards and coordination between authorities and the private sector are important elements in guiding the development of Las Terrenas.
Tavárez's proposal provides for municipal management open to dialogue with entrepreneurs, traders, entrepreneurs, community organizations and residents, with the aim of integrating the different sectors into decisions related to the future of the municipality.
It also points to the importance of communities participating in development processes and receiving concrete benefits from tourism growth, so that progress is measured not only by the volume of investment but also by the opportunities it creates for the population.
From this perspective, the Mayor would have a significant role in the territorial system, the coordination of initiatives with the productive sectors and the creation of favourable conditions for business activity and collective well-being.
The debate on the tourist future of Samaná also takes on importance in the light of the opportunities linked to cruise tourism and the need to incorporate local businesses, carriers, tour guides and entrepreneurs in the value chain of this activity.
For Las Terrenas, the challenge is to consolidate a long-term vision that will allow for the harmonization of investment, municipal organization, the protection of the environment and the needs of communities, with the aim of promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism development.
