Two men who were wanted by the authorities, allegedly linked to murder cases since 2014, handed over to the National Police in Santiago, the spokesman of the institution, Diego Pesqueira, said on Saturday.
The police spokesman explained that the deliveries took place as part of the actions to search for and prosecute persons required by the justice system, while reiterating the call to those who remain fugitives to submit themselves voluntarily to the authorities.
Pesqueira indicated that detainees were required by court orders and that, once in custody, they will be guaranteed respect for their individual and constitutional rights, as well as due process established by law.
The statements were offered during an activity in which he accompanied the general director of the National Police, Major General Ernesto Rafael Rodríguez García, and the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raz.
In that scenario, the authorities announced that the third phase of the new police patrol model will arrive in Santiago Oeste next day 20, as part of the strategy to strengthen citizen security and improve the response capacity of the officers.
Minister Rainful highlighted the incorporation of body cameras, training and evaluation programmes for police personnel, measures to strengthen the monitoring of the actions of the officers, transparency and internal control.
The arrival of the new model in Santiago Oeste seeks to strengthen crime prevention through a more focused patrol scheme and additional mechanisms to follow up police performance.
The authorities reiterated that persons required by the justice system can voluntarily surrender to respond for the facts attributed to them, under the guarantees provided by the Dominican legal system.
