The director of the municipal district of La Cuaba, Carlos Julio Montaño Ureña, thanked President Luis Abinader for putting off the construction of a recycling plant in the Los Aguacates area, following the concerns and rejection expressed by residents of the area.
Montaño Ureña reported that the decision was communicated to him by a commission composed of the Vice Minister of the Presidency, Alexis Jiménez; the president of the Commonwealth of Santo Domingo, Junior Santos, and other representatives, who told him that the initiative to install the waste processing plant will not continue.
The municipal official stressed that this decision takes into account the call of the community, who expressed concern about the impact the project could have on the environment and in an area recognized for its natural attractions and its tourist potential.
Montaño appreciated the attention given to the people's demands and considered it essential that the voice of the communities be heard when it comes to initiatives that can affect their environment, the quality of life of their inhabitants and the prospects for local development.
He reiterated the importance of preserving the natural resources of La Cuaba and protecting its tourist vocation, considering that environmental care is an essential element for the well-being of families and the future of the community.
The district director said that to put the construction of the recycling plant in Los Aguacates to rest, it is a reason for satisfaction for the residents who opposed the project and claimed environmental protection of their territory.
