Universal Pictures revealed the first official poster of The Exorcist: Martyrs, the new film of the iconic terror franchise that will be directed by Mike Flanagan and starring Scarlett Johansson, whose premiere is scheduled for 2027.
The promotional image was presented on October 9, 2026, along with the first trailer of the production. Under the motto “The darkness must be hunted,” the campaign anticipates a story in which human crimes and supernatural threats will be closely related.
Unlike previous deliveries, Mike Flanagan will seek to explore a new story within the universe of The Exorcist, without recreating the events of the 1973 original film, directed by William Friedkin and considered a classic of horror cinema.
The plot will follow Julie Miller, a New York detective played by Scarlett Johansson, who 13 years ago managed to stop a serial killer known as Father Sunday. However, a new series of crimes will force her to face again the horrors of her past.
During his investigation, Miller will be assisted by Father William, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Detective Gina Restrepo, who will be living in Sasha Calle. Together you will discover connections between different serial killers and a threat that seems to overcome any rational explanation.
The cast also includes Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Jacobi Jupe and Carla Gugino. The film will be produced by Blumhouse, Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment, with a script written by Flanagan himself.
The Exorcist: Martyrs will arrive at the cinemas on March 12, 2027, as Universal Pictures confirmed. With its first poster and trailer, production begins to reveal a proposal that will combine criminal suspense with religious and supernatural terror.. .
