The intense rains that occurred on Wednesday night caused new floods in Santiago for the second day in a row, leaving houses nested, stranded vehicles and difficulties in the displacement of residents, some of whom reported being abandoned by the authorities.
The affected areas include Cienfuegos, La Union, La Gloria, Monterrico, Reparto Peralta, Bellavista, La Barranquita and the Espaillat, as well as points of the Tamboril and Knights avenues, where the rainfall again altered the daily activities of the community.
In some of these localities, water entered the homes again and covered several streets, while drivers were stranded on different tracks, making it difficult for people to transit and return to their homes.
Santiago Floods: affected
The recurrence of the floods in Santiago has caused discomfort among the residents of the affected communities, who claim to be unprotected from a situation that once again harms them every time heavy rains occur.
The Community calls for concrete responses from the authorities and solutions to reduce the impact of rainfall, especially in areas where water is accumulating on a recurring basis and threatens their homes and belongings.
Santiago Floods: drainage
The floods recorded for two consecutive days have revived the residents' concern about the conditions of the rain drainage at different points in the province.
Those affected stress the need for interventions that help prevent water accumulation in the streets and reduce risks to the most vulnerable communities.
To date, no official balance is available on the number of homes affected or on the extent of the damage caused by the rains.
