Saint Doming.- Dominican actor Frank Perozo considered the film “The Bride of the Atlantic” it represents more than film production, defining it as a complaint against gender-based violence and an invitation to reflect on the various forms of abuse that affect society.
“This film comes to account that not only through physical violence, but also through psychological violence, we have all been involved, in one way or another, directly or indirectly, in violent situations,”, the actor expressed during the press conference of the film, held in Caribbean Cinema of Novocentro.
Perozo further noted that violence can be manifested in the nearest environment, involving neighbors, friends and family members, and therefore believes that it is a problem that must be stopped.
“It's a very serious subject and I understand this film is going to be practically more than a movie, a denunciation of that situation,”, expressed.
In the feature film, the actor plays a politician whose concern for his public image and electoral interests leads him to turn his back on a situation of gender-based violence. On this character, he explained that he represents one of the central conflicts of history.
“He is a politician who is a little more interested in what he is going to see in the game, in the midst of an electoral campaign, and prefers to turn his back a little bit on that problem, more concerned about his personal or political interests,”, held.
Although he described the character as a kind of villain, Perozo stressed its importance for the development of the plot and to show how particular interests can become an obstacle to a social reality that requires attention.
Referring to the message that the Dominican public expects, the actor stressed the need to promote reflection and work from the formation of children and the upbringing of new generations to promote changes in society.
It also considered it important to strengthen the mechanisms for professional counselling and psychological assistance for those who have not received in their family environment the tools necessary to establish healthy and respectful relationships.
Frank Perozo highlights a friendship story
The statements by Frank Perozo are made in the context of the presentation of “The Bride of the Atlantic”, a film with which Celinés Toribio debuts as director of feature films, sharing the co-direction with Vicente Peñarrocha. Both developed the script with Alejandro Andújar.
Produced by Esencia Films, the story follows Laura, played by Toribio, who returns from New York to his native Puerto Plata and finds that his friend Evelyn, incarnated by Sandy Hernández, faces a relationship marked by the abuse. Together with Miguelina, a character played by Cheddy García, he is taking an initiative to support her, in a story that highlights the importance of friendship, solidarity and accompaniment to violence.
The cast also includes Ivan Sánchez and Zoe Martin Lachapell, in addition to the special participation of Frank Perozo, Ettore D'Alessandro and Freddy Geneva.
The production was shot at approximately 95 % in Puerto Plata and had a construction team integrated in about 90 % by women, highlighting the participation of women in different creative, technical and production areas.
“The Bride of the Atlantic” he will be in the cinema rooms throughout the country on November 26, one day after the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
