The Dodgers officially named the two-time Cy Young Prize winner, Tarik Skubal, as their opener for the National League against Braves Divisional Series Game 1 on Saturday.
Skubal, who was acquired from the Tigers in a major change before the Limit Date, will receive the ball as the Dodgers start their push in the postseason in search of the fifth tricampeton in the history of the World Series. Although the left-handed opened six postseason games for Detroit, leaving an effectiveness of 2.04, this will be the first time I have launched a game of playoffs at home.
Skubal left a 5-2 mark with 2.61 effectiveness in 10 regular season openings like Dodger.
The Braves' offensive was significantly weaker against the left-handed in the regular season, recording a PAHO of .696 in the face of claims compared to a PAHO of .730 against rights. That could have been one of the factors that led the Dodgers to wander over Skubal above his ace, the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 World Series, Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
By not opening with Yamamoto in Game 1, the Dodgers are likely to have it only available to start a match in the SDLN, as in their career they have never opened an encounter with less than five days of rest. Of course, the Japanese released as a short-lived reliant in last year's World Series with the championship in play, closing the Game 7 one day after the Game 6 was opened.
Yamamoto launched multiple simulated entries during the Dodgers training on Wednesday, which went behind closed doors for the media, which could make it more likely to start Game 3 if Los Angeles chooses another left-handed, Blake Snell, for Game 2.
